While last year was a massive year for Mardouw, with the launch of two new products, export to Europe and sought-after Gold awards from SA Olive and the ABSA Top 10 Best Olive Oils, the year 2018 has started on another high note: Woolworths is now stocking our XXV Intense Extra Virgin Olive Oil nationwide in South Africa. We're on a roll, and it all makes us look forward with great excitement to our upcoming olive harvest, and to the next batch of extra virgin olive oils that are only months away from hitting the shelves ...

OLIVE HARVEST STARTING SOON

Mardouw olives not affected by drought

We expect Mardouw's 2018 olive harvest to start at the end of March or early April. "Despite the severe drought experienced by most farmers in the Western Cape of South Africa, Mardouw's proximity to fresh mountain water off the Langeberg Mountains secures sufficient irrigation for our crops to grow and ripen in the best possible conditions," says farm manager Chris van Niekerk. "The way things look now, we expect above average yield from our trees, with healthy fruit full of complex flavours and aromas."

OLIVE TREE NURSERY

Mardouw olive trees for sale from 2019

Olive trees are drought tolerant and can survive on shallow soils with little supplemental water. It makes them a perfect option for currently drought-stricken gardens in the Western Cape. The olive tree cuttings at the newly established Mardouw nursery are in their rooting phase, and should be planted into individual bags soon, with cultivars including Coratina, Noccellarra Del Belice and Mission. Keep an eye out for availability from early 2019.
